Sep. 19--Shares of publicly traded companies headquartered in the Capital Region lost value Monday as U.S. stock markets reopened after last week's terrorist strikes.

And as the Dow Jones industrial average staggered to its biggest -loss ever, experts were hard-pressed to come up with any kind of guess what the coming days will bring.

"I don't know what you tell investors," said Michael Marvin, co-chairman at software developer MapInfo Corp. of North Greenbush. "Over a long haul, the biggest bet is that nothing changes."

In other words: 20 years from now, Monday's drop will be merely a blip.
