American to Furlough Pilots; Delta Warns of Job Cutbacks.

Sep. 21--American Airlines Inc. plans to furlough 386 American pilots and 120 TWA Airlines LLC pilots as of Oct. 1 as part of its plan to eliminate 20,000 jobs, American's pilot union said Thursday.
In a message to members, Allied Pilots Association president John Darrah said the company used language in the union's contract that allows furloughs in a "national emergency."
Delta Air Lines Inc. warned Thursday that it will have to cut jobs along with its 15 percent to 20 percent cutback in capacity to survive the drastic downturn in its business after last week's terrorist attacks.
