Wal-Mart Must Run Ads Detailing Discrimination against Deaf Job Applicants.

Sep. 21--The nation's largest retailer is going to have to pay for TV ads allowing two deaf men to detail for viewers how a Tucson Wal-Mart refused to hire them in 1997.
In an deal approved Wednesday, U.S. District Judge William Browning also ordered the company to pay a $427,500 fine for violating its promise to a federal court to stop discriminating against deaf applicants and workers. The cash will go to the Arizona Center for Disability Law, which will use it for statewide legal advocacy, job development, job coaching, sign interpreter services for the disabled and monitoring the compliance agreement.
