Orange County, Fla., Leaders Worry About Tourism Slump in One-Industry Town.

Sep. 26--In public, Orange County Chairman Rich Crotty is all smiles -- touting a relatively healthy economy and a strong belief that the suffering tourism industry will bounce back.
But behind the scenes, county officials are running economic models, studying the region's safety and even assessing whether hiring freezes may be needed for local government.
That's just the way things go when the main industry suffers in a one-industry town.
And it leaves Crotty in a role similar to the mayor of Amity Island in the movie Jaws -- trying to safeguard the community without scaring the tourists away.
