Southwest Airlines Starts Route between Jacksonville, Fla., and Norfolk, Va.

Oct. 10--Southwest Airlines didn't let turbulence in the airline industry ground plans to add new service this week between Jacksonville International Airport and Norfolk, Va.

Southwest began flights between the cities Sunday, marking the first time since Sept. 11 that an airline has added service at JIA, rather than scaling it back.

"We didn't have any second thoughts," said Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Whitney Brewer. "We had made a commitment that we were going to serve the Norfolk area."
