Audit Suggests Ways South Carolina Could Save $33 Million on Medicaid.

Oct. 25--The state could save $33 million on Medicaid if it required patients to participate in managed- care programs or paid premiums for more working poor people to get private insurance, according to a Legislative Audit Council report.
The audit, released Wednesday, looks at how to save money at the S.C. Department of Health and Human Services, the state's Medicaid agency.
The department has a budget of $1 billion in state and federal money, and it serves one-third of the state's population.
The Department of Health and Human Services generally agrees with the findings, with one caveat.
