Cox Interactive Media Sheds 70 Jobs, Three in Orlando, Fla.

Oct. 26--Cox Interactive Media, which runs Web sites in Orlando and 21 other markets, said Thursday it would fire 70 workers because of sluggish advertising sales.

The layoffs constitute 15 percent of the company's 450-person work force. The job cuts affect at least three people in Orlando -- including a producer, designer and manager.

Locally, the company produces icFlorida.com, or "Inside Central Florida," a Web site with local news and entertainment information.

Marleen Burford, a spokeswoman for Atlanta-based Cox Interactive, said the company also will close Web sites in Miami and Los Angeles.
