Lockheed's Innovative Design Sealed Fighter Jet Deal, Boeing Executive Says.

Oct. 31--WASHINGTON--An innovative aircraft design won Lockheed Martin Corp. the $200 billion Joint Strike Fighter program, according to an executive for rival Boeing Co.

As Pentagon officials graded the two companies' JSF proposals, "Lockheed Martin consistently scored higher in the air vehicle's design," executive Jerry Daniels said Tuesday, recounting a briefing to Boeing from Pentagon officials.

Boeing was graded higher in "overall management and past performance on major programs," said Mr. Daniels, president of Boeing Military Aircraft. "We tied when it came to questions of cost and affordability."
