Mining Subsidiary of Milwaukee-Based Firm Lays Off 100 Workers.

Nov. 1--P&H Mining Equipment has laid off at least 100 production workers as the mining equipment maker sees sales slow as copper prices fall because of a weakened global economy.
P&H is a subsidiary of Milwaukee-based Joy Global, formerly known as Harnischfeger Industries.
Between 100 and 120 hourly production jobs will be lost, but the exact number hasn't been finalized, said Geno DaRonco, president of United Steelworkers of America Local 1114.
The company had been bidding for several new machines, but those orders went to Milwaukee-based Bucyrus International instead of P&H, DaRonco said.
