Nov. 6--U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta on Monday condemned the lapses at O'Hare International Airport that allowed a man to bring seven knives and other weapons through a United Airlines security checkpoint, saying he was ordering the airline to retrain all of its screeners in Chicago.
Speaking in Chicago, Mineta called the breakdown a "case of dramatic dimensions" and said the incident Saturday prompted him to call a meeting with the chief executives of the nation's airlines to discuss the continued problems with airport security.
"When there are screw-ups, there is going to be a sting," Mineta said.
