Major Airlines Note Traffic Drops of at Least 24 Percent in October.

Nov. 6--The sharp drop in airline traffic following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks continued into October, with four airlines reporting declines of 24 percent to 34 percent.

Compared to last October, US Airways reported a 34 percent drop in revenue passenger miles, the number of miles flown by paying passengers.

Declines were 29 percent at Northwest Airlines, 28 percent at American Airlines and 24 percent at Delta Air Lines.

US Airways' October passenger load -- the percentage of seats filled -- was 61.7 percent, a decrease of 8.5 percent from a year earlier. The Arlington, Va.-based carrier has its busiest hub in Charlotte.
