Hewlett Family Opposes Compaq Deal.

Nov. 7--The family of a Hewlett-Packard Co. founder said Tuesday it would vote against the company's proposed merger with Houston-based Compaq Computer Corp. Whether the deal is threatened by the family's position is not yet known.
The three children of William Hewlett -- Walter B. Hewlett, Eleanor Hewlett Gimon and Mary Hewlett Jaffe -- said the merger would hurt Hewlett-Packard by further exposing it to a declining market for personal computers and distracting managers from helping the business grow.
