Orange County, Fla., Leaders Approve Tax Break for Siemens.

Nov. 7--With mild reservations, Orange County leaders agreed Tuesday to contribute $367,000 to a $1.8 million incentives package for Siemens Westinghouse Corp. to open a service center here.
On one hand, county leaders were eager to diversify the region's tourism-dependent economy with 637 new jobs that pay an average of $43,475 annually.
But on the other hand, the property tax boost that taxpayers will get back in this deal is not as high as some previous deals. And a majority of these jobs will actually pay an average of only $34,000, which is not much higher than the county's current average of about $30,000.
