Virginia Tech Hopes Virtual Environment Can Improve Assisted Living Facilities.

Nov. 13--Peering through thick glasses, Hilda Dailey surveyed the apartment in front of her.

The kitchen cabinets were too high, she said. The walk-in closet needed built-in shelves. There really should be a chair in the bedroom.

Over the course of half an hour, Dailey and her tour guide, Emily Maples, visited five assisted-living apartments without ever leaving their seats in a darkened room on the Virginia Tech campus.
