Oklahoma City-Based Cell Phone Company Drops Plans to Be Acquired.

Nov. 15--Dobson Communications on Wednesday pulled up its "For Sale" sign, but did not answer the big question weighing down its stock price.

The Oklahoma City cellular phone company's chairman and chief executive, Everett Dobson, said in a conference call that because of the economic climate, the company will no longer consider being acquired. The announcement comes about two months after the company announced it had hired Banc of America Securities and Lehman Brothers to help consider a merger, acquisition, restructuring or strategic alliance.
