German Industrial Behemoth Siemens Lays Off Workers at Lake Mary, Fla., Plant.

Nov. 20--The U.S. telecommunications unit of German industrial giant Siemens AG said Monday that it has dismissed 100 workers at its Lake Mary plant as part of a nationwide streamlining.

The cutbacks in Lake Mary represent about 10 percent of the local work force, said Tom Phillips, spokesman for Siemens Information & Communications Networks Inc., based in Boca Raton. The plant employs more than 1,000 in the manufacture of switching systems and other telecom equipment.

Jobs eliminated include factory workers and engineers as well as administrative and training personnel, Phillips said. Employees were notified late last week.
