Federal Appellate Judge Denies AOL's Appeal in Class Action Lawsuit.

Nov. 27--A federal appellate judge has left intact a national class action lawsuit against America Online that alleges the Internet service provider lured customers with deceptive advertising.

According to the lawsuit, consumers weren't properly told that the access number they called to connect with the Internet might be a long-distance call. That's something unsuspecting customers discovered only after they had racked up hundreds -- sometimes thousands -- of dollars worth of long-distance telephone bills, said Lance Harke, one of the Miami attorneys who brought the lawsuit last year.
