Massachusetts General Hospital Takes Disaster Planning to New Level.

Nov. 28--Inside Massachusetts General, the largest hospital in New England, Helen Doherty has loaded the pantry with 800 industrial cans of tuna and stocked the freezer with 250 turkey breasts -- enough to help feed patients and staff for 20 days if the roads are impassable.

She has water, too -- "hundreds of gallons" at four locations at the medical center at the foot of Boston's Beacon Hill, along with thousands of bottles of juice. She has secured the bakery and the kitchen; only employees with card access can enter. And Doherty, the food service director, now keeps the red folder listing the whereabouts of her 300 employees outside her office door, so she can grab it...
