Buffalo, N.Y.-Based Synacor Wins Pact to Handle E-mail for Kmart's Web Service.

Dec. 6--Synacor Inc. in Buffalo will handle e-mail for customers of Kmart's BlueLight Internet service, giving it a presence in one of the nation's major on-ramp services.

The deal marks a milestone in Synacor's transition to a fee-for-service business, officials said. Formerly called Chek.com, the company started out as a provider of free, ad-supported Web e-mail.

"It's great recurring revenue from an established company," said George Chamoun, chairman of Synacor and vice president of sales. "I don't think Kmart's going anywhere."

The value of the agreement wasn't disclosed.
