Enron, Recession and Terrorist Attacks Cripple Job Growth in Houston Area.

Dec. 12--Enron Corp.'s bankruptcy, the national recession and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will dampen Houston's economy next year, according to the Greater Houston Partnership.
Area employers will add only 15,000 jobs next year, a 0.7 percent increase, said Jim Kollaer, president and chief executive officer of Houston's promotion and development group. That represents the smallest annual increase in a decade. By comparison, Houston probably will finish this year with an extra 41,700 jobs, he said.
