Norfolk, Va., State University to Seek $51 Million for Technology Complex.

Dec. 15--NORFOLK, Va.--One day after learning that $21 million in state money is in the works for its dream research and technology complex, Norfolk State University's Board of Visitors established a foundation to try to lure another $51 million from the private sector.

The board's action Friday is one of the clearest signs to date that the RISE complex -- a vision of university leaders since 1998 -- is gaining momentum. Earlier this year, the board authorized President Marie V. McDemmond to buy the first 11 acres for the center, and she hopes to complete that purchase by March.
