Dec. 21--PILOT'S UNION OFFERS LOWER PAY DEAL TO DELTA: Delta Air Lines Inc.'s pilots union leaders voted to allow as many as 6 percent of its pilots to volunteer for lower pay if they are not needed for duty, helping the third-largest carrier reduce costs, Bloomberg News reported.

The airline, which has 9,600 active pilots, including about 850 based out of Salt Lake City International Airport, will make the offer to as many as 550 pilots who aren't needed for duty in positions where the airline is overstaffed, Delta spokeswoman Peggy Estes said. Volunteers will be paid for 55 hours a month, instead of the minimum 75 hours for a regular schedule or 70 for a reserve schedule.
