Israel to Buy 52 F-16 Fighter Jets from Texas-Based Lockheed Martin Unit.

Dec. 21--Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. said Thursday that Israel has exercised an option to purchase 52 F-16 fighter jets.

The value of the contract for the Fort Worth-based division of Lockheed Martin Corp. is $1.3 billion out of a total program value of about $2 billion.

The deal -- Israel's sixth purchase of F-16s -- will extend the production base at the company's Fort Worth plant through 2008 and help stabilize the 11,500-member workforce there.

"This buy provides an excellent base for future F-16 sales and provides a solid bridge to JSF production at our Fort Worth facility," said Dain M. Hancock, president of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics....
