Turner Broadcasting Calls It Quits for Goodwill Games.

Dec. 21--Turner Broadcasting quietly pulled the plug on the Goodwill Games Thursday, 15 years after the multi-sport event brought the world's athletes together with great fanfare.
Ted Turner created the Games to unite the United States and Soviet Union on the playing fields after the Olympic boycotts of 1980 and 1984. His pet project also provided hundreds of hours of programming for his networks.
Many well-known Olympic athletes competed in the Goodwill Games. Jackie Joyner-Kersee set the world record in the heptathlon in 1986. Michael Johnson won a gold medal in 1990. Other top athletes to compete in the event -- and rake in hefty appearance fees --...
