Tehachapi, Calif.-Based Enron Unit Sells Texas-Based Wind Power Facility.

Jan. 1--Tehachapi-based Enron Wind has sold a 160-megawatt wind power facility in west Texas to American Electric Power, one of the largest renewable power generators in the nation.

"We were looking to expand in renewable and wind energy," said AEP spokesman Stephen Williams.

For its part, Enron Wind is not scaling back, company spokeswoman Mary McCann said Monday.

"The sale of the Indian Mesa project is a normal course of business transaction for Enron Wind and has been in negotiation ... for several months," McCann said.

Under terms of the $175 million agreement, AEP agreed to honor long-term contracts to sell power from the Indian Mesa Wind...
