Boston-Area Medical Center Hires New Chief Executive.

Jan. 5--The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center board of trustees yesterday voted unanimously to hire Paul Levy, former director of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, as the hospital's new chief executive, pending approval from its parent organization, hospital officials said.

If CareGroup, the hospital and physician network that oversees Beth Israel Deaconess, approves Levy's hiring during a meeting tomorrow, as expected, he will take over the financially beleaguered Harvard teaching hospital next week, the officials said.

Levy, 51, of Newton, is not a physician and has never run a hospital but apparently has beaten out experienced hospital executives...
