Seattle-Area Home Sales Defy Holiday Lull; December Figures at Four-Year High.

Jan. 8--December is usually deadly dull for the real-estate industry.

Not last month, though.

December sales in King and Snohomish counties were the hottest in four years, according to figures released yesterday.

Because of the holidays and nasty weather, the month generally is the slowest of the home-buying year, typically doing about half the business of other months.

"It's not hard to beat a December," quipped J. Lennox Scott, president of John L. Scott Real Estate.

But in a year marked by recession, massive layoffs and terrorism, the local and national housing market has stayed strong.
