IRS Recommends Filling Out Electronic Tax Returns.

Jan. 8--Those short on cash after Christmas spending or those who are victims of the recession may be looking forward to a tax refund.
Tax packages and computer filing brochures for the 2001 tax year should be hitting mailboxes in the coming weeks, well in advance of the April 15 tax deadline. The IRS expects to receive about 132 million returns this year.
The Internal Revenue Service will begin processing electronic tax returns Friday. Once again, the IRS is advocating computer filings rather than paper once people start receiving their W-2 forms this month. Electronic filing also includes filing by phone using what is called the TeleFile system.
