New Mexico Regulators Delay Area Code Until Next Year.

Jan. 9--SANTA FE, N.M.--State regulators on Tuesday officially postponed the introduction of the new (575) area code in New Mexico until at least June 2003.
The decision means Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Los Alamos will keep 505 for another 15 months and probably longer if numbers are not used up, the commission said.
A Federal Communications Commission plan, scheduled to start April 8, is expected to reduce the amount of numbers issued to phone companies, said Linda Hymans, manager, regulatory and compliance, for NeuStar, Inc. the company hired by the FCC to administer the plan.
