Thailand Maker of Long-Lasting Shoes Now Looks for Comfort.

Jan. 9--Shoe seller Nitaya Pontawewirat couldn't believe her ears: "Your shoes are too durable," customers complained when she began selling the hardy footwear almost 30 years ago.

The reason was simply that durability and comfort are at different ends of shoe production, and makers have to balance the two essentials in making a good quality product.

Established in the early 1970s, Taywin & Podopedist Co Ltd has grown from a small shop to a factory that aims to make 150 pairs of shoes per day.
