Vodafone, Vivendi Universal Replace CEO, Cut 100 Jobs at Internet Portal.

Jan. 8--Vodafone and its French partner Vivendi Universal began the long-awaited revamp of their troubled UKpound 1 billion internet portal Vizzavi by replacing its chief executive and cutting 100 jobs.

The portal, which sends football scores, news updates, games, ringtones and horoscopes to customers" handsets, has never managed to usurp rivals such as Yahoo! and Microsoft's MSN.

Vodafone chief executive Sir Christopher Gent hopes the shake-up will increase the time users spend visiting the site and says Vizzavi will break even by end 2003.

Vizzavi will now retain a greater share of the cash raised by selling content such as ringtones and will also get a share of the money...
