Ford Workers in Orange County, Calif., Await Restructuring Plans.

Jan. 10--Ford Motor Co. employees in Orange County hope to escape unscathed as the company prepares for a restructuring announcement Friday that could mean plant closures and up to 20,000 job cuts.
Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford isn't alone in making cuts. General Motors is expected to announce buyouts of about 5,000 white-collar workers today while DaimlerChrysler is closing plants and cutting 26,000 jobs.
Ford is reportedly tightening its belt after a year of declining quality rankings, the firing of its chief executive, the Firestone tire recall and a drop in 2001 market share to 21.9 percent from 23 percent the year before.
