Enron Called Bush Administration Asking for Help.

Jan. 11--WASHINGTON -- Responding to a fast-developing investigation of Enron Corp., the Bush administration disclosed Thursday that Enron's top official called two Cabinet officers to warn them about the energy giant's pending financial collapse and raising the spectre of a bailout.
The two officials, Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and Commerce Secretary Don Evans, took no action on the calls from Enron Chairman and CEO Kenneth Lay, a major campaign contributor to President Bush, and did not inform the president, said White House spokesman Ari Fleischer.
