Enron Asked Bush Administration for Help Calling Off Bankers.

Jan. 12--WASHINGTON -- As Enron Corp. tried to stave off financial collapse last fall, the company's president asked a senior Bush administration official to call its bankers, the Treasury Department said Friday.
The official, Treasury Undersecretary Peter Fisher, didn't intervene on Enron's behalf, Treasury spokeswoman Michele Davis said.
The revelation came a day after the Bush administration disclosed that Enron Chairman Kenneth Lay had called Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and Commerce Secretary Don Evans in late October seeking help. Neither provided assistance, the administration has said.
