Enron Did Not Receive Aid, Bush Cabinet Officials Say.

Jan. 14--WASHINGTON--Seeking to contain any political fallout from Enron's financial meltdown, two Bush Cabinet officers reiterated Sunday that they took no action to help the failing company after getting calls from its well-connected chief executive.

In appearances on the Sunday news shows, Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and Commerce Secretary Don Evans said it would have been improper for them to intervene as Enron, once the nation's seventh-largest company, careened toward bankruptcy.
