Norfolk, Va., State University Begins Offering Degree in Tourism.

Jan. 22--NORFOLK, Va.--Capitalizing on Hampton Roads' appeal to vacationers and building on a desire to prepare students for high-paying careers managing hotels and restaurants, Norfolk State University has created a new tourism department.

The addition means students can now pursue a bachelor of science degree in tourism and hospitality management. Until now, they have only been able to major in business with a concentration in tourism.

"This gives students . . . a greater legitimacy in marketing themselves because the degree actually says that" they studied the field in depth, said Thelma B. Thompson-Deloatch, vice president of academic affairs....
