Family Pushes Charleston, W.Va., Farmers Market as First Stop for Shoppers.

Jan. 22--"A lady was in here the other day and spent $22," said Leigh Bowlin. "Now I'm headed for Kroger,' she said. That meant so much to me."
Getting a customer to stop at Risk's 35th Street Farmers Market instead of heading straight to a one-stop chain store is a victory for Bowlin and her family.
Bowlin, the granddaughter of Shipley and Wavie Risk, who brought fresh produce to the Kanawha Valley for decades, works to help her family business survive. To that end, she plans to expand the business, and she wants to make all those customers who could go straight to a giant store glad they stopped.
