Aliquippa Community Hospital in Pittsburgh Area Makes Strides Toward Future.

Feb. 3--A visit with Dr. Fred Hyde, chief executive officer at Aliquippa Community Hospital, is like a trip back to the future of hospital management.

As Hyde strides through the 104-bed institution's corridors, he acts as much like a steward as a CEO, bending several times along the way to pick up stray scraps of paper from the floor.

Just like that gesture, his strategy for reviving the 45-year-old institution is reminiscent of an earlier era when community hospitals were less caught up in a regionwide medical arms race and more focused on what was going on in their own back yards.
