Feb. 3--With World War II just ending, little luxuries like bubble gum were hard to come by. But Sid Siegel, who owned a grocery store in Miami Beach, occasionally would slip his son a piece.
The entrepreneurial 10-year-old had an angle, though. David Siegel would take the penny piece, cut it into 10 bits and sell them to eager schoolmates for a dime each.
"I made a lot of money that way," he says.
More than 50 years later, Siegel, now a multimillionaire time-share tycoon, is still looking for a way to make money. This time, his angle is becoming an NBA team owner.
