Texas Oil Firm to Purchase Golden Eagle Refinery in Avon, Calif.

Feb. 5--Tesoro Petroleum Corp. of San Antonio has agreed to buy the Golden Eagle refinery in Avon in a deal that will mark the third change of ownership since May 2000 at a facility where five workers died in 1997 and 1999 accidents.
Tesoro will pay Valero Energy Corp., also of San Antonio, $1.08 billion for Golden Eagle and 70 Beacon gasoline stations in California in a deal slated to be announced today.
Word of the transaction came as representatives of Valero and the Paper, Allied-Industrial Chemical and Energy Workers International Union sought to forge a new collective bargaining agreement for Golden Eagle, which is located between Martinez...
