NASCAR Goes After a New Breed of Fan.

Feb. 12--DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--Buckshot Jones was surrounded by fans begging for autographs. It was a sweet moment of fame for the youngest member of Richard Petty's racing team, though the scene was far from the tracks in Daytona Beach, Talladega, Ala., or Rockingham, N.C., that are the traditional hotbeds of stock-car racing.

The place was a cellular-phone store, and the location was a suburb of cosmopolitan, metropolitan Miami. And the place was packed -- even though Buckshot Jones isn't a name that ranks up there with Petty, Earnhardt or Gordon.

The turnout at the Sprint store last fall is evidence of how NASCAR is picking up fans in such non-traditional...
