Federal Trade Commission Cracking Down on Senders of Illegal Junk E-mail.

Feb. 13--WASHINGTON--Got spam? Forward it to the Federal Trade Commission.

Really. The FTC doesn't want all of your junk mail, but it is cracking down on deceptive chain-letter spam and wants to know about e-mails such as those that promise recipients they can earn "$46,000 or more in the next 90 days" if they send $5 to a few individuals.

"Almost everyone with an e-mail account gets spam," said Timothy Muris, chairman of the FTC. "It's intrusive, unwelcome and annoying. Deceptive junk mail is also illegal. We want to send a message today: We're going after deceptive spam and the people who send it."
