Northwest Chief, President Win Points from Some Analysts.

Feb. 20--DETROIT--Here's a glimpse of how Northwest Airlines chief executive Richard Anderson and president Doug Steenland make decisions: Given a hypothetical where the airline finds millions of dollars lying around to spend, Anderson says he'd want to recall many of Northwest's laid-off workers and spend more money on its first class and business class service.
Steenland sees it differently. He'd put the windfall in reserve. "You cannot have too much money in the bank," he says.
Anderson pauses.
"If we had this discussion just like that at work, and Doug said that, I'd say, 'You know, Doug's right,' and we'll do what he says first,"...
