Attorneys in Class-Action Suit against Enron Officers Debate Case's Timeline.

Feb. 26--Attorneys in the federal class-action lawsuit against officers of Enron Corp. sparred Monday over expediting the discovery process and setting a trial date.

U.S. District Judge Melinda Harmon told the lawyers, "It should settle. But, I'm also realistic and know that most of the case will not settle."

Lead counsel Bill Lerach said depositions should not be delayed any longer or be allowed to go past Nov. 15, 2003, with trial expected a year later.

"The sooner discovery begins the sooner the case can go to trial," said Lerach, who represents the University of California's board of regents.
