Pastor to Give Up Church Salary to take New Jersey Economic-Development Post.

Mar. 5--The Rev. Dr. William D. Watley said Monday that he will give up his salary as a Newark pastor to become the top economic development official in Governor McGreevey's administration.
Watley's appointment as chief executive of the Commerce and Economic Growth Commission was approved unanimously Monday, but only after a closed-door discussion among Senate Republicans, who share control of the upper house with Democrats.
His appointment had come under question because of issues surrounding his salary as senior pastor and his status as a member of the board of several non-profit corporations affiliated with St. James AME Church in Newark. A published...
