Florida Governor Tells Republicans to Kill Senate Tax Boost.

Mar. 5--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--Gov. Jeb Bush stepped up his efforts to derail the Senate's latest tax plan, urging fellow Republicans on Monday to break with Senate leaders and kill a proposed $878.5 million tax increase.
Bush worked the phones to head off the Senate's scheduled vote this week on closing more than a dozen tax exemptions to pump more money into public schools.
He warned Republican senators that backing higher taxes could haunt all the party's candidates, including himself, at the polls. One top senator said Bush was imploring Republicans to "take one for the team," by voting against the tax increase.
