Florida Senate Softens Its Stance on Tax Overhaul, Budget.

Mar. 13--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--The session-long stalemate between Florida's ruling Republicans may be ending, as the Senate agreed Tuesday to drop its plan to kill some $880 million in sales-tax exemptions to pump more money into education.
Instead, Sen. Don Sullivan, R-Seminole, said the Senate will be able to pour almost that same amount into public schools without a tax increase, after last week's economic forecast promised lawmakers $644 million in unexpected cash.
"I really don't know if the logjam is over," Sullivan said. "But this shows some movement between us and the House."
