Move to Washington, D.C., Puts AT&T Latin America Closer to AT&T Corp.

Mar. 17--AT&T Latin America's move to Washington, D.C., has nothing to do with South Florida and everything to do with AT&T Corp.
The recent announcement that the company would move its headquarters from Coral Gables to the nation's capital by the third quarter left many folks scratching their heads. It didn't make sense that it would be moving north, when AT&T Latin America serves clients in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru, providing broadband communications services.
But since AT&T Corp. is the company's majority stakeholder and main financial backer, Washington is much closer to the mother ship than Miami. AT&T is based in Basking Ridge, N.J., with a...
