Cable Internet Firms Not Required to Share Web Lines, FCC rules.

Mar. 15--The Federal Communications Commission decided Thursday not to require cable Internet services to open their lines to competitors, drawing applause from Western New York's major cable company.
Adelphia Communications said the decision will support the growth of high-speed Internet services by safeguarding investment in them.
"Investors are only willing to give us money based on a return," said Thomas Haywood, Adelphia's regional vice president of operations.
Adelphia has 50,000 subscribers for its "Powerlink" Internet service in Western New York, which costs about $40 a month.
