Mar. 22--KOTZEBUE WIND POWER RECOGNIZED: An electric industry group has nationally recognized Kotzebue Electric Association for its windpower plant in Northwest Alaska, an ongoing effort that has reduced Kotzebue's dependence on diesel. The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association awarded Kotzebue Electric the "Community Service Network Award" on March 11 at the group's annual meeting in Dallas. The award recognizes community service and grass-roots advocacy. Kotzebue Electric runs an array of wind generators 30 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
